SJM Working to Bring Same Day Voter Registration to NJ

SJM is working with our partners at the NJ Institute for Social Justice and the League of Women Voters of NJ and other groups to bring Same Day Voter Registration to NJ.

New Jersey voters deserve democracy in a day, just like the millions of voters who live in 21 states and Washington DC that allow voters to register and vote all on Election Day.  Studies show an average voter turnout increase of 5% in states that have same day voter registration, with as much as a 10-percentage point increase in turnout among 18-to-24-year-olds.  New Jersey’s deadline of three weeks before Election Day to register is arbitrary and unnecessarily disenfranchises people. In a true democracy, we want people to vote.
