The Story of Bones Film Screening
Please join SJM for a special screening of A Story of Bones on Sunday, July 27th at 2pm at the Shady Rest in Scotch Plains. This award-winning film chronicles Annina Van Neel's tireless work to reclaim and honor the neglected history of St. Helena after the remains of thousands of formerly enslaved Africans are uncovered on the remote island. Van Neel is joined by cultural projects consultant and expert on African burial grounds, Peggy King Jorde, in her struggle to respectfully memorialize the remains. Jorde will be joining us for a discussion after the film screening. The Urban Cone will be onsite with ice cream available for purchase beginning at 2pm, prior to the screening of the film. This event is free and open to the public.
