The legacy of potato chips attributed to George crum

The 1853 Legend: George Crum, a Native American/Black American chef at Moon's Lake House, is widely credited with the invention. Frustrated with a patron (often rumored to be tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt) returning fried potatoes, Crum created paper-thin, over-fried, and heavily salted chips to annoy the customer, who instead loved them. Originally called "Saratoga Chips," this snack grew from a restaurant delicacy into a globally popular, mass-produced item in the 20th century.
